What I Packed in my Hospital Bag

hospital bag, what I Brough to the hospital, packing for the hospital, baby must haves, maternity fashion, maternity bump

Its been 4 months since I had our sweet boy but I figured, better late than never!

Grady came 2.5 weeks early but thankfully I was already packed and ready to go for the hospital when the doctor told me I needed to be admitted asap. With that being said, if you are a mom to be and preparing to pack for the big day then here is what I found to be the most useful and what I realized was not worth bringing. I did end up having a C-section which did change how long we stayed at the hospital. That meant I actually packed the perfect amount of outfits for him and myself.

THE BAGS

If you are wondering what type of bag you should even pack then I have your solution! The bags I used were the perfect size, easy to carry, and held everything I thought I needed! This extra large Camo bag was a gift and the perfect size to fit everything for Grady plus a little room for anything I was going to take home from the hospital. I also packed a bag just for things for me in this Vera Bradley bag. Grady’s diaper bag also made the cut (not necessary to have an actual diaper bag but nice just to throw extra stuff in as well when you leave the hospital.

WHAT WAS IN GRADY’S BAG

In his Camo bag I packed things strictly for Grady or that I needed for the hospital room. Every outfit was organized and in ziplock baggies so that Matt knew which one to grab if I needed him to! The hospital provides diapers, wipes, and pretty much every essential for him you would think he would need besides clothes.

Here was my list:

  • 4 gowns (all were these from Copper Pearl, but linked another brand I love below!)
  • 4 hats (these were the only ones that fit him) + 4 mittens (the hospital room was freezing + they scratch their face so easily)
  • 1 going home outfit
  • 1 name tag, 1 swaddle, 1 hat , and one layering blanket for bottom of bassinet to use for announcement picture
  • 1 baby blanket (his lovie)
  • VAVA nightlight
  • mini travel fan
  • Shusher
  • Nipple Cream
  • Blanket x 2 (one for me and one for Matt)
  • Pillow x 2

What I should have included:

  • 2 swaddles (swaddle me or woombie)
  • 2 pacis (we brought WubbaNubs but I recommend a more infant size paci, like these Nuk or Mam, it was easier for G to latch onto these)
  • my breast friend pillow
  • Nipple Shield
  • Breast Pump
  • 1 Como Tomo bottle (if you have to supplement with formula) this bottle is the best for transitioning back and forth from breast to bottle!
  • 1 small container of formula you plan on using if you would need it!

WHAT WAS IN MY BAG

  • Robe (I wore this every single day) its 20% off today with code THEONE
  • Nursing Tanks
  • Loose Fitting Lounge Pants
  • Slippers
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, dry shampoo)
  • Brush
  • Make Up/Make Up Remover Wipes
  • Face Wash (I did pack shampoo and conditioner as well but decided to shower when I got home)
  • Towel and Hand Towel (for my face)

You will not need underwear or any post partum kit essentials as the hospital gives you everything! Before you leave, stock up on all of the supplies you used while in the hospital to have extra at home.

While this post was long overdue, I hope you find it helpful if you are planning to have a baby soon and looking to pack your hospital bag!
